Bovée / Allard / Ardennen / Artigas / Augustina

Jules Bovée

Jules Bovée (1915) is een bel;gisch kunstenaar die aanvankelijk
in sombere tinten werkte. Zijn studiereizen deden zijn palet een
omslag maken naar vrolijker em lichtere kleuren, getuige dit werk.
Olie op paneel. Afmetingen 50 / 60 cm.

Charles Allard

A very well done watercolour by this belgium artist that
lived around 1900. A beautiful oriental watercolour of his hand
can be found on the internet. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.

Ardennen

One way or another this signature seems to have been removed
or otherwise fainted over time. We liked the subtle colour nuances
in this painting and the craftsmanship in general.
Painted on a walnut wooden panel. Dimensions
30 / 40 cm. Oil painting on wood.

Joan Ga(i)rdy Artigas

Litho: afmetingen 80 / 110 cm
Augustina

Baert Roger/ Baksteen Dirk / Baeyens Martin / Brouwer Peter / Buikema Albert

Baert Roger

Work in pencil by the belgium artist Roger Baert.
On the back this work has been signed with the addition: study
Work on paper. Dimensions: 25 / 35 cm.Mixed technique.

Signature: Just click on this picture and you can enlarge it.

Baksteen Dirk

Very cosy painting. Oil on panel.
Dimensions:  12 bij 20 cm.

Baeyens Martin R

Graphic work of the belgium artist Martin R Baeyens.
This particular work is called: "Ode to Vincent van Gogh"
More of his work can easily be found on the internet.
He was awarded with several prices all over the world.

This label states he made this litho exclusively for
Riem and Honig paper.Work on paper.
Dimensions: 70 / 90 cm.

John Bevort

John Bevort made a lot of mediterenian oriented works
he finally signed with "Camprio". Several works with
this signature can be found in the USA. the strange
thging about this work that it carries in fact two signatures:
Camprio and Bevort which is quite rare.
Work on canvas. Dimensions: 40 / 50 cm

Brouwer Peter

This painting has been signed: Marrot. However a
part of this painting has been cut off in order
to let the original signature disappear. The second
painting shows us an original still life from the dutch
painter Peter Brouwer and the similarities are striking.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 60 / 80 cm

The original Peter Brouwer that came to me by a collector
of dutch art from Gdansk! Apart from the way the paint
has been applied, this canvas measures 60 / 90 cm (!)
It is obvious that someone removed the signature by
cutting off 10 cm from one side in order to put up a fake
signature on this work! This happens quite often.

Buikema Albert

This work is called "Stormy Ocean" Oil on canvas.
Dimensions 60 / 90 cm.

We recently bought this work because
similarities with the work above are striking.
Strang thing is that this work hasn't  been signed.
Thus proved blacklight even after removing the
false signature. However the subject, elements,
way of painting and even the same placing of
some details in this painting makes it another Buikema.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 50 / 60 cm.

James L Caldwell / Cassin / Chiara Castelli / G.Cox

JAMES L CALDWALL

An original 18th century engraving by two
great artists of that time: James Caldwall
did the figures on this print while Lillyman Smith
did the background:
"Immortality of Garrick"

CASSIN (?)

Watercolour that is signed but not really readable.
Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Just click on this picture to enlarge.

CHIARA CASTELLI

This work came to us being an anonymous work.
However as with most crayons the glass was very dirty
so after removing this work out of it's frame
the signature appears to be put on the back.

G. Cox Jr.

A lot of these crayons keeps popping up at antique markets
and household auctions as there was a whole family named
Cox that produced crayons in this style. It is a bit
disturbing however that there is an Englishman Garstin
Cox that later worked in Belgium and was producing
in about the same style as the dutch based Cox family.
The reed grooves are done in a meticulous way.
Additional information can be found on the following site: http://stichtingvanmourik.nl/lex/Pages/artists/CoxG/coxg.htm
Inside information is that G. Cox Jr. made a lot of crayons for
an antique dealer in Antwerp so it is explainable that these
crayons can be found in Belgium as well.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 47 / 88 cm.

Delfeld Henri / Dielman Marguerite / D'Astra Paolo

Henri Delfeld

Belgium artist that lived in the middle of the twentieth century.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Marguerite Dielman

Pastel welke met grote kennis van de materie opgezet is.
Belgisch artieste die rond de vorige eeuwwisseling heeft geleefd.
Werk op papier. Afmetingen 45 / 60 cm.

Paolo D'Astra

This oilpainting is in need of some
restaurationwork but allready nice to
observe in this condition!
Oil on Canvas: Dimensions 50 / 60 cm.
Probably a later addition. This artist cannot be traced.

The back shows us quite an old canvas.
The frame has been renewed.

Eva van Dam / Lucien Delarue / Eddy Doorenbos / Felix Eyskens

Quite a big watercolour of this paintress living in
Amsterdam. The subject choosen here can even be found in more
recent work of her. We liked the action and skills.

Eddy Doorenbos

As in fact I'm a musician myself it is remarkable to see that
the dutch musician and singer Eddy Doorenbos had a
painting career as well. He followed an education while
living in Torremolinos (Spain) at the academy of Malaga.
He managed to sell some of his works to the jet set in
Marbella e.g. Gina Lollobrigida, Anita Ekberg and
Sean Connery. However he returned in his musicianship
later on and is still an active singer in his nineties!

As Eddy Doorenbosch wanted to make artworks for the
americain market as well he adapted another name for
this area in the world: Eddy Dorn.  Work on canvas.
Dimensions: 40 / 50 cm.

Lucien Delarue

Paris Streetscene by Lucien Delarue.
Many thanks to Wil van den Heuvel who
send me a picture of what certainly must be
an original watercolour by this french artist.
However by studying his work it appeared to be
a print.

This was the signature on his work and has
been done with paint. The watercolour up above
has been signed with pencil.
That explains the difference in the letter D.
Everything that follows however has a
convincing similarity.
This is the signature on my work.
By clicking on both signature pics you can see
that the first one is a print.
We call it a printing raster.

Another watercolour made by Lucien Delarue.
Well known for his Paris streetscenes, we didn't
know he did still lifes as well.
Work on paper. Dimensions 40 / 50 cm.

Felix Eyskens

This landscape looks like a simple work by this artist.
However when you examine it more closely it has
been done with a lot of craftsmanship. All
brush strikes are spot on! Work on board.
Dimensions: 25 / 25 cm.

Francesca / Eynar From

Francesca

This mixed technique work has been signed "Francesca".
We think it to be very humoresque as mostly women
decide where to place the furniture.....Work on paper.
Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Eynar From

Oil on panel with a hardly detactable signature.
It could be the norwegian painter Eynar From but I doubt it.
Oil on panel. Dimensions: 50 / 50 cm.

Frits Jansen (1945)

FRITS JANSEN

Louis Garin / Victor Gilsoul / Helene Gregoire

A forceful work by the french (Rennes) born painter Louis Garin.
It hasn't been signed however Catherine Charbonneaux an expert as well as
an auctionneer states it to come out of the Garin Atelier.

All paintings that were left there have been stamped

once she was convinced it had to be made by the
hand of Louis Garin. His colours are there anyway!
Work on board. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Victor Gilsoul

A bit of an earlier work by the later more impressionistic working
Belgium painter Victor Gilsoul, who appeared to be one of the best
selling artists in the period around 1920 / 1930 in Belgium.
Oil on canvas. Dimensions 30 / 40 cm.

Helene Gregoire

Another Helene Gregoire watercolour the way you can
find them on the Watercolour blog I made. Interesting
thing is that the next artist Haldankar on this blog also
made various watercolours of old arabs that are
high esteemed in the art world. Work on paper.
Dimensions: 40 / 50 cm.

S.L. Haldankar

Haldankar S.L.

Hardly believable but this watercolour from about 1925 in
reality has these colours. Absolutely no fainting or any damage.
S.L. Haldankar is one of the most famous painters of India.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 30 / 44 cm.
City view of Madras.

A nice detail shot and you are even able to enlarge it
by clicking on this picture.

This picture of the signature will be
helpful to investigate it or compare it to other
works by this artist on the internet

Roger Hebbelinck

This etching has been done in Bergen op Zoom though most
subjects of his works are situated in Belgium. He litterary made
thousands of colour etchings and we must assume it to be just
commercial work. However: He certainly has his skills and
to my opinion he exells in harbour subjects where the
expression of water is involved. Work on paper.

Floris Jespers.

A immediately recognizable drawing by Floris
Jespers from his Congolese period. Jespers is
one of the leading persons related to expressionism.

His signature that is convincing.

Grafisch werk / C. Jonker / Mori Kinsen / Jules van de Leene

Jan Houwe Kuiper   "Haringvliet"

C. Jonker

Afmetingen 20 / 30 cm.

Mori Kinsen

This Japanese born artist worked a lot in Indonesia
and was one of the favourite artist of Soekarno.
He worked in the Barbizon style what is remarkable.
You can observe these influences better in
his Oil paintings. Work on paper. Dimensions:
30 / 45 cm.

He signed his work simply with Mori Kinsen and
sometimes added a red stamp that states it to come
from his workshop.

Jules van de Leene

Watercolour heightened with (probably) gouache
from the belgium painter Jules van de Leene.
Work on paper. Dimensions: 50 / 60 cm

.
The back of this painting shows the first attempt
in producing this painting but probably van de Leene
was not satisfied with this result so he started all
over again. In pencil La Cambre has been added what
possibly could point in the direction of Ter Kameren,
a place near Brussels.

This picture makes it easier to study the signature
done in black ink. Most of the watercolours from van
de Leene were made before 1922 - 1923.
